  • Rain in Winter

It is icy and slick but feels like spring.

This winter has had its ups and downs. Change is in the air but I don't know if it's good yet. I am healthy. Teenagers are hard work and keep me on my toes. Jewelry making is my main craft these days but I have no camera to post it with.

  • Lost in the world of gaming

Last year this time of year I was Isadoran in Runescape until I got bored and started doing other more creative things. This time of year my arthritis is bad and I use games as a way of distracting myself from pain. The past month I have been lost in World of Warcraft. My character Lorilye in Antonidas realm was given a guild by a stranger and I didn't even know I was guild master until the second time I logged in. My guild is boring I can see why he dumped it on me and the name is misspelled. I didn't even normally play in that realm. I was dragonsbard a troll in Thunderhorn. Now my main is the guild master I made when my normal server was down and another dragonsbard in Antonidas. In Thunderhorn I was Horde but my guild in Antonidas is alliance.

The novelty is wearing off and I made this this weekend. Sorry it is blurry I have no camera and the scanner is blurry.

  • Art tarot lace and Carpal tunnel Syndrome

My arm hurts from all the jewelry and doll making. Plus I made myself two new dresses. My son saw me taking apart my green shirt that I wore to a witches ball 2 years ago and he said mom you are destroying your rain shirt. I had forgotten that every time I wore the shirt we got caught in heavy rain storms. I explained to him that the green fabric was falling apart and I was replacing it with a paisley brown cotton knit. I still have the original handmade lace and silk calico brown sleeves. I explained the shirt has been reincarnated into a new gown. I am sure Jess will photograph the new dresses in a couple of weeks.

When I first tried the new rain dress on it rained all night. The second time I wore it we got heavy rain and hail. The dress didn't lose it's rain power.

I drew this today. For two days I have been asked to do tarot readings for 5 people. I don't ask for money but I got gifted with Cocoa marshmallow mateys, ginger sauce and photos. The readings were all very accurate and I know at least two of the people will ask for more. One of the people drops in once a year to get a reading. This time she brought other people with who wanted readings and one homemaker got a reading too.

This grey haired doll is not for sale

Lately I have been making dolls and jewelry. A woman named Rose asked me to make a cloth doll. She wanted me to sculpt the face and not to worry if it doesn't turn out perfect.

When I worked on the doll I dropped one of the arms and it stopped falling with the hand touching the edge of my bed. I thought it was odd. When the doll was almost done once again I dropped her and she didn't fall all the way. Her arms were the only thing touching the side of the bed.

After I put her hair on I noticed she looked like a friend of mine who died a year ago of breast cancer. I had made her an Angel. I couldn't bring myself to sell her to Rose but decided to send her to a friend who cared deeply for the woman whom the doll resembeled. When I was ready to package and send her the doll disappeared. I found her last night hiding in a wicker shelf out of my reach in my bedroom last night.I decided I better keep her.

National Gallery of Art Brief Guide

"When Whistler submitted The White Girl to the Paris Salon in 1863, the tradition-bound jury refused to show the work. Napoleon III invited avant-garde artists who had been denied official space to show their paintings in a "Salon des Refusés," an exhibition that triggered enormous controversy. Whistler's work met with severe public derision, but a number of artists and critics praised his entry. In the Gazette des Beax-Arts, Paul Manz referred to it as a "symphony in white," noting a musical correlation to Whistler's paintings that the artist himself would address in the early 1870s, when he retitled a number of works "Nocturne," "Arrangement," "Harmony," and "Symphony."

"Whistler used variations of white pigment to create interesting spatial and formal relationships. By limiting his palette, minimizing tonal contrast, and sharply skewing the perspective in a manner reminiscent of Oriental art, he flattened forms and emphasized their abstract patterns. This dramatic compositional approach reflects the influence of Japanese prints, which were becoming well-known in Paris as international trade increased."

"Clearly, Whistler was far more interested in creating an abstract design than in capturing an exact likeness of the model, his mistress Joanna Heffernan. His radical espousal of a purely aesthetic orientation and the creation of "art for art's sake" became a virtual rallying cry of modernism."
